Explore the Historic Old Town

A lot of Rattenberg's charm comes from its historic Old Town. The narrow cobblestone streets, lined with beautifully preserved medieval buildings and ancient city walls, are picture perfect. As you wander, pop into the local artisan shops that offer handcrafted glass art - a hallmark of Rattenberg's long-standing glass-making history. You may even witness a live glass-blowing demonstration, where artisans skilfully create delicate masterpieces right in front of you!

Visit the Alpine Glass Museum

The Alpine Glass Museum is a must-see in Rattenberg. It offers an engaging insight into the art and history of glassmaking, highlighting why Rattenberg is often regarded as a center of this craft. The museum houses an extensive collection of intricate glass sculptures and installations that reflect centuries of craftsmanship. You'll be sure to leave impressed.

A Taste of Local Cuisine

After you've explored the historical sites, it's time to treat yourself to some local delicacies. Rattenberg is home to plenty of cozy cafes and traditional Austrian restaurants. You'll be spoilt for choice! Be sure to try a Kaiserschmarrn or Apple Strudel, both staple Austrian deserts. Café Konditorie Hacker is a great spot for both...and they have some absolutely delicious chocolates on offer too that you can stock up on and take back to Hütte Waldzeit for some late-night nibbling in front of the fire.

Walk off dessert with a hike up to the Castle Ruins

A short hike from the town center will take you up to the ruins of Rattenberg Castle. It's just 1km long, but has a continuous steady incline, so it's a great way to work off the Kaisershmarrn and Apple Strudel you've just tucked in to! There is a cracking view of the Inn Valley and surrounding mountains at the end too.
